George Calix Roy

NORTH ADAMS George Calix Roy, 95, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014 at Williamstown Commons surrounded by his loving family.He was born in Pittsfield, the son of the late Calix "Chick" and Edith (Trombley) Roy. He attended North Adams schools and graduated from Drury High School. He was employed for 47 years at Sprague Electric Company as Corporate Manager of Shipping and Receiving, retiring in 1983. While employed he received awards on several occasions, one time after saving the lives of people who fell in the Hoosac River. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all. He was an avid golfer and lifelong member of the North Adams Country Club. In his younger years he was an accomplished softball pitcher and an avid Red Sox fan. George's passion was for fishing and spending countless hours with his family at their cottage on Lake Champlain. Mr. Roy was married to Alyce "Honey" (Tadiello) Roy on Sept. 20, 1941. She predeceased him Sept. 27, 1983. He is survived by his two sons, George C. Roy Jr. and his wife, Beth, from Tampa, Fla., and Michael E. Roy and his wife, Therese, from North Adams. He also leaves five grandchildren, Scott Roy and his wife, Sarah, of Indialantic, Fla., Stephen Roy and his wife, Ann of Holliston, Sean Roy and his wife, Sara, of Wake Forest, N.C., Jeffrey Roy and his wife, Trina, of Pittsfield and Laurie James and her husband, Gary, of Pownal, Vt. He also leaves 12 great grandchildren, Justin, Brianna, Kaylee, Leah, Kamryn, Juliana, Sydney, Colton, Lindy, Cammie, Kaia and Mason. He is also survived by a brother, Roland Roy of Pownal, Vt. He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Donald and Lionel; and five sisters, Melva, Beatrice, Rita, Exilda and a sister who died in infancy. FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside service will be held on Oct. 25, at 11 a.m. in the Southview Cemetery in North Adams. There are no calling hours.
