George W. Young

1930-2013 George W. Young, 82, of 235 Walker Street, Kimball Farms Retirement Community, died Sunday evening at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center.

Born in New York City November 8, 1930, the son of Theodore J. and Janet Blossom Young, he was a graduate of Salisbury School in Connecticut and later earned his Bachelors of Art degree from Princeton University, majoring in History and Oriental Languages.

Mr. Young was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1950-52, and was honorably discharged from the Army Reserves in 1960 with the rank of First Lieutenant.

He built his career at J.P. Morgan & Co., later Morgan Guaranty Trust Co. and its affiliate J.P. Morgan Investment Management, starting in 1954 as a security and credit analyst with Morgan's Corporate Research Department He retired as Vice President and Chairman of the Departmental Credit Committee in 1986.

Mr. Young later became a Trustee and, at various times, headed the Alumni Association at Salisbury School. He was active in Republican politics and served as President and Treasurer of the Coliseum Republican Club in NYC. Mr. Young was also a Vestryman of Christ and St. Stephen's Church and St. Ignatius Church, both in Manhattan, and a Treasurer of the U.S. Conference of World Council of Churches.

He is survived by his niece Jessica Lanier & Gregg Morrell; and two nephews, Ian Lanier & Ellie, and Ross Lanier. He was pre-deceased by his sister Jane Noell Lanier.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A funeral liturgy with Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at Trinity Church in Lenox, Sunday, March 3rd at 2 p.m. A Memorial service at St. Ignatius Church in New York City, where Mr. Young resided for much of his life, is planned for late Spring.

In lieu of flowers donations in George's memory may be made to St. Jude's Hospital or Diabetes Action Research and Education Foundation in care of the ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main Street, Lenox, MA 01240.
