1932 - 2014 NORTH ADAMS Gerald Raymond Burdick, 82, of Port Orange, Fla. passed peacefully from this life on Dec. 29, 2014. Gerald was born on Oct. 16, 1932 in North Adams, to the late Laurence and Helen Burdick. He grew up in Massachusetts ultimately graduating from Drury High School in 1951. A short time after graduating high school, Gerald answered the call to join The United States Army and fight in Korean War. He served faithfully in the Army until being discharged honorably in 1956. Upon his return to the United States he began a career that would span over 47 years as a meat cutter and manager in various grocery stores and restaurants. Gerald was also active in his community he was the Chairman of the North Adams Parks & Recreation Commission. Upon his retirement as a Meat Manager in Massachusetts, Gerald decided to move his family to the Daytona Beach area in 1985 where he would continue to work in the Meat industry. He ended his long career at Weber's Steakhouse where he was their meat cutter. Gerald was a fan of all sports but loved NASCAR especially Dale Earnhardt, Jr. He was also an avid fan of the New York Giants. Gerald will be missed by all who knew him. Gerald is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Gertrude Burdick, his loving children; Jerry Lee Burdick (Stephanie) of Springhill, Tenn., Gregory Burdick (Debbie) of N. Billericka, Mass., Scott Burdick (Fran) of Ormond Beach, Fla., Theresa Weber (Brett) of Port Orange, Fla. and Christine Edmonds (Tracy) of South Daytona; his devoted brothers Bill Burdick (Jane) of Adams, Mass., Jack Burdick (Era) of Texas and Larry Burdick of Williamstown, Mass.; his devoted grandchildren, Misty, Allen, Dale, Michael, Sarah, Curtis, Nathan, Ryan, Briana, Ashley, Amber, Addison, Heather, Lynette, Sarah and Alaina and his loving great-grandson Seth. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Laurence and Helen Burdick, his sisters; Carol Severine, Gert Volpi, Betty Burdick and Sara Burdick and his brothers; Laurence Burdick, Jr., Robert Burdick and Paul Burdick. SERVICES: A mass will be held for 8:30 a.m. on Friday Jan. 2, 2015 at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, located at 4675 South Clyde Morris Boulevard, Port Orange, FL 32129.
