1938 - 2014 NORTH ADAMS Gerald Joseph Pontier, 76, a native and longtime resident of North Adams, died Sunday evening, Sept. 21, 2014, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. He was born in North Adams on July 2, 1938, a son of the late Joseph and Philia (Kwasnicke) Pontier, and attended schools in North Adams. Mr. Pontier worked in the Ordnance Division of General Electric and its successor, Lockheed Martin, in Pittsfield for over 25 years, until his retirement. He then spent the winter months in Florida. He was a member of the Cheshire Rod and Gun Club, and enjoyed cars and collecting guns. He had served with the Massachusetts National Guard for 10 years. He is survived by a daughter, Carin D'Abrosca and her husband, David, of Nottingham, N.H.; A brother, Robert Pontier and his wife, Marion, of North Adams; two sisters, Julia Mendel and her husband, Robert; and Marcia Payette, both of Adams; His close friend, Silvana Penna of Pittsfield; two granddaughters, and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Christopher Pontier. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. from the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Adams, celebrated by the Rev. Steven Montesanti, Pastor of the Parish of St. John Paul II. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling Hours are Saturday morning from 9:30 until 10:30 at the funeral home.
