Gladys B. King

1921-2013 CHESHIRE Gladys B. King, 92, formerly of 43 North Street, Cheshire, died Sunday, November 24, 2013, at Williamstown Commons. Born at home in Cheshire, on Aug. 11, 1921, the daughter of Martin D. and Jennie Clark Bickford, she was a graduate of Adams High School. Mrs. King was employed by Sears as Manager of the Women's Department. She retired in 1983 with 26 years service. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in North Adams. Mrs. King was a member of the Cheshire Senior Center where she waited table until the age of 90. She was also a member of the Cheshire Grange and a longtime member of the Cheshire Reading Club. She supported many charities. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crocheting, and was a landscape painter. Her husband, Harrison R. King, Sr., whom she married October 25, 1941, died June 24, 2001. Mrs. King is survived by three sons, Martin E. King of Deluth, Ga.,, Harrison "Butch" R. King, Jr., of Cheshire, and Daniel G. King and his wife, Debbie, of Clearwater, Fla.; two daughters, Maxine C. King of Woodbridge, N.J., Kirsten A. King and her husband, Curtis Richardson of Thetford Center, Vt.; 10 grandchildren, Cami King and Brent King, both of Reynolds, Ga., Karleen Richardson and Colby Richardson of Thetford Center, Vt., Harrison King, III. of Heidelberg, Pa.., Marta Ngrin and her husband, Jason of Woodbridge, N.J., Melanie King of Northampton, Mass., Melissa Thomas of Katy, Texas, Nichole Crawford and her husband, Adam of Lakeland, Fla., and Stephanie Martin, and her husband, Shawn of Cheshire; and 10 great grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Gladys B. King will be held Monday, December 2, 2013, at 11 a.m., at All Saints Episcopal Church, 59 Summer Street, North Adams, with Rev. Stephen L. White, Priest in Charge, officiating. Burial will be in Cheshire Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday, from 4 to 7 p.m., at DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME, 121 North State Road, Cheshire. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church, in care of the Funeral Home, P.O. Box 445, Cheshire.
