1928 - 2016 DALTON- H. Edwin Cady, 88, formerly of Deming St. Ext, passed away on October 21, 2016 at Springside of Pittsfield Nursing and Rehab Center, where he had resided since January of this year. Ed was born on February 8, 1928 in Adams, MA; the son of Harold E. and Clara O'Dell Cady. He was a 1945 graduate of Dalton High School, he earned a BS in Civil Engineering from Northeastern University. Before his graduation he worked in the co-op program with Metcalf & Eddy Consulting Engineers. Following his graduation, he was employed by Metcalf & Eddy, while with them he was the project manager for the creation of the Cleveland reservoir. In 1956 he joined George E. Emerson Construction of Pittsfield where he oversaw numerous local construction projects. Upon his retirement in 1990, he was serving as the vice president of the company. Ed was active with the Town of Dalton; he had served as a cemetery trustee for over 45 years and took great pride in the care of the cemeteries. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Dalton where he served as a Trustee, and Deacon for years, his engineering and construction expertise was always called upon. He enjoyed playing golf in local leagues, skiing, camping, gardening, and was an avid train buff. His family was the world to him, hosting holiday's and gatherings at the house he had constructed 58 years ago. Ed kept a journal and chronicled his days with a passion. Ed leaves his wife the former Marilyn L. Haon to whom he been married 66 years; sons Jeffrey A. Cady and wife Carmela of Dingmans Ferry, PA, Paul F. Cady and his wife Karen of Schaghticoke, NY, Bruce J. Cady and his wife Michelle of Dalton, daughter in law Barbara Cady of Lawrenceville, GA. Grandchildren - Amy, Sean, April, Sarah, Kristen, Becky, Derek, Ryan, Megan, Jessica, Tressa, Jeremy, Charlie, 16 Great Grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephew, brothers Al Cady of Dalton, and Burton Cady of Millis, Ma. He was predeceased by his son David J. Cady and sister Lois Wilbur. FUNERAL NOTICE- Funeral services for Mr. H. Edwin Cady will be held Thursday, October 27, at noon, at the First Congregational Church of Dalton with Rev. Quentin Chin officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashuelot Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
