H. "Shirley" Fitch
1922-2014 PITTSFIELD H. "Shirley" Fitch, 92, of 320 Pittsfield Road, Lenox, MA died Monday evening at the Mount Carmel Care Center in Lenox, MA where she had resided since May of 2013. Born on July 16, 1922 in Syracuse, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Sherman and L. Alice Thompson Mix. A longtime resident of Syracuse, she had resided in Pittsfield for the past nine years. She was educated in New York schools and was a 1940 graduate of Onondaga Valley Academy; she had also attended the Syracuse Business School. She married her husband, the late Robert D. Fitch in 1949. He died in February of 1971. Mrs. Fitch was employed for 22 years as a secretary with the Public Library System in Onondaga. She had also worked for many years with a Defense Contractor in Syracuse, N.Y. during World War II. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Syracuse where she was an active volunteer, serving as church secretary, Sunday School teacher and Deacon. She was a lifetime member of Alpha IOTA. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family and grandchildren. Her family was the focus of her life. She leaves a son, Dale E. Fitch and his wife, Deana of Pittsfield, Mass.; four grandchildren, Aura, Christopher, Felecia, and Luke, as well as her former daughter-in-law, Tara Falso of Liverpool, N.Y. She was predeceased by a son, the late Bruce Fitch who died in 2000. Shirley's family would like to thank all of the wonderful nurses and CNA's at Mount Carmel Care Center that took such good care of her. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for H. "Shirley" Fitch will be held Saturday at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Syracuse, N.Y. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Syracuse. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield, Mass. and again on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the FRASER-SHEPARDSON FUNERAL HOME, 1217 N. Salina St. Syracuse, N.Y. Memorial donations in memory of Shirley may be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church or to the Robert D. Fitch Scholarship Fund both in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201.
