Harold Gifford Brown 1929-2012 DRURY, MASS Harold Gifford Brown, born June 10, 1929, passed away of natural causes, Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, N.Y. Residing in Scotia, NY for most of his life, he was born in North Adams, Mass., son of Harold E. Brown and Sarah Belle (Gifford) Brown, and was raised in the Drury section of the Town of Florida, Mass. Harold loved to fly and received his private license on his 16th birthday. He enlisted in the US Air Force, received training in Texas and was stationed in Alaska. He also acquired commercial and instructional licenses. After his military service, he worked as a bush pilot in Alaska and as fireman on the Alaska Railway. He also loved to fish and hunt, especially during his stay in Alaska. He returned to Massachusetts in 1952 and eventually New York where Harold worked for the Boston & Maine Railroad. He started as a fireman and worked his way up to engineer, and held that position until retirement. His children include Jennifer A. Brown (deceased), Pamela G. Brown, Christina E. Naylor, David G. Brown, Christopher S. Brown, and Kathryn K. Frederick. He is also survived by his siblings, Lorraine Moreau of Conway, S.C., Stanley Brown of Drury, Mass., Elizabeth Long of Lisbon, Conn., Doris Lewis of Drury, Mass., Edward Brown of East Longmeadow, Mass, and Dwight Brown of Drury, Mass. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Services will be held at the discretion of the family.
