1931 - 2013 PITTSFIELD Harold Thomas Oswain, 82, a longtime Pittsfield resident, died Sunday morning, April 7, 2013, at Berkshire Medical Center.

He was born in New York City on March 21, 1931, a son of John and Lillian (Hubbard) Oswain, and attended schools in New York.

He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving with the Navy from 1951 until 1956.

Mr. Oswain last worked as a quality control specialist in the Naval Ordnance division of General Electric Co. in Pittsfield from 1969 until his retirement in 1986. Earlier, he had worked for Honeywell Corp. and the Curtis Wright Corp.

He had been a member of South Congregational Church. He was a member and past president of the Berkshire Knapsackers Hiking Club, a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club, and a member of the Mogul Masters Skiing Club.

He enjoyed hiking, skiing, biking and the outdoors. He also completed two transcontinental bicycling trips in his lifetime.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Janet E. Loewen, whom he married on Nov. 9, 1957; a son, John Oswain and his wife, Sheila, of Cheshire; a daughter, Karen Oswain, and her husband, Thomas Cabana, of Cumberland, R.I.; seven grandchildren, Meghan and Sean Oswain, Keeley Murphy and William Murphy III, and Nathan, Joseph and Crystal Cabana; two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, John and Edward Oswain, and by a sister, Virginia McGrath.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours in the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, on Friday, April 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services and burial will be held in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
