Miss Helen Louise O'Leary died at the Arbors in Shelburne, VT on June 20, 2015. Born in Pittsfield, MA, she was the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Flynn O'Leary. Helen was educated in the local schools and was a 1953 graduate of St. Joseph's High School. She continued her education earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1957. Upon graduation she worked for the National Security Agency in Fort George G. Meade, MD. She then worked for the Federal Government in the Department of Education in Washington D.C. as a research analyst until her retirement in 1994. Helen traveled extensively throughout the world. She loved Washington, D.C. and took advantage of its many cultural opportunities. She attended the opera and symphony at the Kennedy Center, plays at the National and Ford Theaters as well as lectures at the Smithsonian and National Art Museum. She volunteered at the Arena Stage, as a docent at the Folger Shakespeare Library and The Tudor Place Historic House and Garden. Helen is survived by her sister, Margaret Burti and her husband, Gus of South Burlington, VT; her brother-in-law, Theodore Kudzy of Red Hook, NY; seven nieces and nephews and their families, her cousin, Margaret Risley and her husband, Raymond, of Pittsfield. Helen is predeceased by her sister, Mary Kudzy of Red Hook, NY, her brother, Daniel O'Leary and her nephew, Mark Kudzy of CT. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at The Arbors for the love and care they showed Helen over the past two years. We will be forever grateful. We would also like to thank her dear friends Eileen O'Conner and Marie Barry for the help they gave Helen in her last year in Washington, DC. FUNERAL NOTICE: O'Leary, Helen Louise, A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 11th at 10a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Elm Street, Pittsfield, MA. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in the family lot. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the in care of the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME who has been entrusted with the arrangements.
