Helen Slavinski

Helen J. Slavinski 1928-2010 HOUSATONIC Helen J. Slavinski, 82, a resident of Housatonic since 1957, died Tuesday, August 17, at home. She was born in Bronx, N.Y., daughter of Adam and Mary Mada, on March 19, 1928. She was a mold injector operator for Becton Dickinson, Canaan, Conn. for many years then she worked for 10 years at the Big Y in Great Barrington as a product demonstrator, winning many awards, and was named top salesperson many times. She was a former member of All Saint's Church and a member of its Ladies Sodality, a member of the Women's Auxiliary at the Adams-Budz V.F.W. Post and a member of the Polish National Alliance. She enjoyed crocheting. She loved her family and spending time with them. Helen's husband, Edward, whom she married on June 24, 1950, died October 4, 1972. She leaves two sons, Edward Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Hancock, Mass., and James and his wife, Gail, of Great Barrington; one daughter, Josephine "Josie" and her husband, John Harvey Jr., of Hillsdale, N.Y.; and two grandsons, Edward Slavinski III and Nathan Slavinski. Besides her husband Edward, Helen was predeceased by a sister, Carol Storm, and brother Mitchell Mada. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Helen Josephine Slavinski, who died August 17, will be held on Friday August 20, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Church with the Reverend William P. Murphy pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Thursday August 19 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers family requests that expressions of sympathy in Helen's memory may be made to either Hospice Care in the Berkshires or to St. Peter's Renovation Fund both in care of the funeral home at 33 South Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230.
