Helen Southworth

1931 - 2013 LENOX Helen McKenzie Southworth, 81, former Eagle proofreader, died at her home Monday evening, June 17, 2013.

Born July 22, 1931, in Waukesha, Wisc., the daughter of Mary Bollogh and Ralph McKenzie, she graduated from Waukesha High School in 1949.

She then served in the Air Force until her discharge in 1952 with the rank of Specialist 2nd Class.

She moved to the Berkshires in 1954.

For 14 years, she was married to the late A. Clifford Dorsel, with whom she had four daughters, and from whom she was divorced in 1966.

In 1963, she joined the staff of The Berkshire Eagle, where she worked as a copy editor, a proofreader, and editor of the Letters to the Editor column, until her retirement in 1992. For many years, she served as a volunteer for the public libraries of Lenox and Lee.

She leaves her daughters, Wendy Dorsel Fisher of Andover, Vt., Heidi Dorsel Daley of Canaan, Vt., Sydney Dorsel Goff of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Mary Dorsel Christian Olsen of Milford, Pa.; three grandsons, Nicholas J. and Zachary P. Daley and Wayne E. Christian, Jr.; two great-grandsons, Tucker and Jackson Christian, and two brothers, James McKenzie of Dublin, OH, and Paul McKenzie of Waukesha.

She was predeceased by her two sisters, Jean Maxwell and Patricia Kennaugh.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Cremation will be private and at the convenience of the family.
