Helen Rita Sweder

1923 - 2013 PITTSFIELD Helen Rita Sweder, 90, passed away peacefully, Dec. 29, 2013, at Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility. Born Sept. 17, 1923, in Belmont, N.H., she was the eldest of eight children of Raymond and Anna Parah Wescott. She was a graduate of Ossippie High School in Ossippie, N.H., and Becker Junior College in Worcester. As a young girl, she worked in the family logging business in Berkshire County. In the late 30's, she worked as a housekeeper at the former Yellow Aster. During World War II, she was employed at GE until the troops returned home. Helen was a longtime waitress and was the manager of the Cup & Saucer in Pittsfield, was employed by the Commercial Sewer clothing mills in Lawrence, and was a food service supervisor in Lawrence, and Berkshire County. She was a talented seamstress/tailor for many people over the years, enjoyed knitting, crocheting and embroidery and attended many local craft fairs as Wescott Creations. She leaves her daughter, Marilyn Danylin of Pittsfield and Lakeland, Fla.; sons, Irving H. Radwich Jr., of Pahrump, Nev., and John A. Radwich of Port Hueneme, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Helen was predeceased by two sisters and two brothers. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Rita Sweder will be today, Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at Noon at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. Peter Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. There will be an hour of visitation prior to the funeral from 11 until 12 at the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
