Henry Katz

1919-2013 PITTSFIELD Mr. Henry Katz 93, formerly of 318 Onota St. Pittsfield, (Rosewood Homestyle Assisted Living) died Wednesday January 30, 2013 at Hillcrest Commons Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Pittsfield.

He was born in Pittsfield, on July 24, 1919 a son of the late Max and Esther (Cutler) Katz and attended Pittsfield Schools and Pittsfield High School.

He was employed by the former Stratton Coat Factory and then in scrap processing business and for several years was the proprietor of Katz's corner variety store and luncheonette on North Street in Pittsfield for 14 years and he retired in 1981.

He was a member of Congregation Knesset Israel, and was a Veteran of World War II in the United States Army and participated in the Rhineland, Ardennes, & Central Europe Campaigns He was a member of the Louis Green Post # 140 Jewish War Veterans U.S.A. His wife the former Sophie Apkin Katz died on January 8, 2005 and they were married on September 28, 1940. He was predeceased by 2 Brothers Samuel Katz and Jason Katz.

Survivors include several nieces & nephews.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral Services will take place Friday, February 1, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Congregation Knesset Israel 16 Colt Road, Pittsfield with Rabbi David Weiner, Spiritual Leader, officiating.
