Irene E. Mezejewski

1917 - 2015 PITTSFIELD Mrs. Irene E. Mezejewski, 97, of Stratford Ave passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, September 2, 2015 at home with her loving daughter by her side. Born in Worcester, MA on September 19, 1917 the daughter of Henry A. and Mabel G. Strom Metterville, she attended schools in Worcester. Mrs. Mezejewski moved to Pittsfield when she was 24 and was a homemaker as well as a professional seamstress. She had also worked at her Aunt's beauty salon when she was just 15 years old and at Filene's Department Store in her 20's. She had many hobbies, including, sewing, knitting, painting, photography, gardening, crossword puzzles, cooking and baking. Irene also enjoyed singing and as a teenager she sang opera on the radio in Boston. Irene was a longtime member of the Reserve Officers Association Ladies Clubs of the United States. She was a communicant of St. Charles Church and a former communicant of Holy Family Church. Mrs. Mezejewski was predeceased by her husband, Richard M. Mezejewski Sr., whom she married on May 23, 1942 in Miami Beach, FL; he died on January 12, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Irene T. Mezejewski with whom she made her home; a brother, Henry Metterville Jr. of West Brookfield, MA; a sister, Evelyn Contestable and her husband, Robert of Spencer, MA; two grandchildren, Lisa and Maria and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Richard H. Mezejewski Jr.; three sisters, Dorathy Butkiewiz, Marion Khoury and Barbara White and a brother-in-law, Theodore J. Mezejewski Sr. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mrs. Irene E. Mezejewski will be Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 9 a.m. from the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St., Pittsfield, MA with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church, celebrated by the Rev. A. Peter Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday, September 8, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. If friends desire, donations may be made to St. Charles Church, care of the Dwyer Funeral Home, in her memory.
