J. Neil Curtin Sr.

1931 - 2015 TYRINGHAM J. Neil Curtin Sr., 83, of Main Road, died Tuesday at his home. He was born in Pittsfield on Dec. 28, 1931 the son of John J. and Davena F. Stanton Curtin. He was educated in the Tyringham and Lee School and was a 1949 graduate of Lee High School. After graduation he worked as a logger for a short period of time until working at the former Peter J. Schweitzer Paper Co. and retiring from the then Kimberly Clark Corp. in 1991 after 41 years, where he worked as a mill wright and machine tender. His first love was his wife, family and participating in his grandchildren's activities. He enjoyed the out of doors especially hunting, fishing and time spent at his camp the 4C's Big Sixty on Beartown Mountain. He was a long time member of the Tyringham Fire Dept. His enjoyments were snowmobiling, belonging to the Tyringham Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club of which he was Trail Boss, riding his Quad, the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, New England Patriots, Atlanta Braves and Nascar racing. Neil leaves his wife, the former Helen A. Hathaway whom he married March 13, 1950; two sons, John N. Curtin Jr. and Gerald W. Curtin both of Tyringham; three daughters, Darleen Wilkinson and her husband, Joseph, of Sheffield, Molly Schaefer and her husband, Timothy, of Tyringham and Mary Errichetto and her husband, Gino, of Stockbridge; four brothers, Peter L. Curtin, James J. Curtin and his wife, Kathy, Thomas F. Curtin and his wife, Maggie, all of Tyringham and Dennis S. Curtin and his wife, Nancy, of Otis; one sister, Dede Loring and her husband, Charles, of Otis; his sisters-in-law, Marilyn Curtin and Dorothy Falk and her husband, Jack Falk; his 13 grandchildren, Stacey, Lori, Mark, Mike, Cody, Ben, Nick, Paula, Joe, Keith, Michele, Todd and Kevin; his 17 great grandchildren, Madison, Colby, Brady, Izzy, Chris, Cody, Dillon, James, Crystal, Tracy, Blake, Wyatt, Kyle, Alan, Tucker, Owen and Laci. He is predeceased by his son, David; his sister, Patricia Soules; his brother, Terry; his daughter-in law, Sissy Curtin; his sister-in-law, Deanna Curtin; and brother-in-law, Norman Soules. FUNERAL NOTICE: The Funeral will be held on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at the Tyringham Union Church with the Rev. Janet McKinstry, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Tyringham Cemetery.
