Jack Calvin Hoag

1947 - 2014 NORTH BENNINGTON Jack Calvin Hoag, 66, a resident of Lake Drive, died on Monday, March 10, 2014, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., following a brief illness. Jack was born March 17, 1947, to Raymond S. Hoag Sr. and Genevieve M. Dolan Hoag, and was the youngest of three children. He married the former Jean M. McSherry, on Aug. 23, 1969. Together, they raised three sons. He received his formal education in the Bennington area and at age 14, began working with his brother Raymond. After a few years, he established his own business, Hoag's Auto Sales. He had worked there with his nephew, Mark Hoag, for almost 20 years. During Jack's recent illness, his good friend Bob Bourne stepped in and graciously assisted him with the business. Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing and stock car racing, but mostly, he enjoyed cruising in his "77 Corvette". He also greatly enjoyed being in his shop and meeting the many wonderful people he has met over the years. Jack is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Jean M. Hoag of North Bennington; sons, Trever Hoag, Jad Hoag, Kerry Hoag and fiance, Lindsay LaTour, all of Bennington; grandchildren, Calvin Hoag, Carter LaTour, Zaine and Amelia Gulley; his sister, Dolores Chalifoux of North Bennington; brother, Raymond Hoag Jr., and Rosemary Libbey of Zephyrhills, Fla.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean Hoag and Bob Aldrich of Seffner, Fla., James and Zarik McSherry of Bennington, Grace and Robert Wilson, and Richard McSherry, all of North Bennington, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning, March 15, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME in Bennington, with the Rev. Thomas Hiltsley, interim pastor of the First Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Hinsdillville Cemetery in North Bennington. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening, from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Bennington through the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
