James "Bob" Baumann

1924 - 2012 HINSDALE James R. "Bob" Baumann, Sr., 88, of 149 Longview Ave., Hinsdale, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Peru on Aug. 7, 1924, son of Frank E. and Mary T. Roberts Baumann, he was a 1942 graduate of St. Joseph Central High School. A World War II veteran, he enlisted in the Navy. Prior to the war,Mr. Baumann was employed as a machinist for Station Machine Works in Springfield and then worked for Clark-Aiken in Lee. He had also worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for 31 years and had been a real estate agent for The Daly Agency for many years.

He was a communicant of St. Agnes Church and for many years at St. Patrick's in Hinsdale. He was a member of the Anthony DeAngelus Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Benjamin F. Sullivan American Legion Post, both in Dalton, and a Past President of the V.F.W in Hinsdale. He was at one time a member of the Hinsdale School Committee and years ago a member of the Hinsdale Volunteer Fire Dept. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He also enjoyed gardening, golfing and hunting.

Mr. Baumann leaves his wife, the former Jennie DeAngelus, whom he married April 26, 1947. Besides his wife, Mr. Baumann is survived by two daughters, Bette Williams and her husband, Jim, of Naples, Fla., and Nancy Knauth and her husband, Paul, of Hinsdale; a son, James R. Baumann, Jr., and his wife, Anne, of Pittsfield; seven grandchildren, Bethany Williams, Matthew Williams, Kellie Baumann, Kristen Baumann, Lori and Jason Beal, Benjamin and Carrie Knauth and Michael Knauth, and three great-grandchildren, Colin, Marissa and Jacob, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Betty Baumann and Elaine Blake, and a brother, Francis E. Baumann.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for James R. Baumann, Sr., will be held Thursday, Aug. 30, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Church, celebrated by the Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Hinsdale. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5 -7 p.m. at DERY FOLEY FUNERAL HOME.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's research in care of the funeral home, 890 Main St., Dalton.
