James D. DePatie

1960 - 2014 PITTSFIELD James D. DePatie, 53, of 70 John St., passed away early Tuesday morning, Aug. 5, 2014, at Baystate Medical Center after a short illness. Born in Greenwich, Conn., on Nov. 21, 1960, the son of David L. DePatie and the late Marie F. McGrath DePatie, he was a 1978 graduate of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic School in Monroe, Conn. After graduating high school he moved to Cornwall, Conn., where he met his wife, Diane; they then moved to Florida and he graduated from Central Florida Community College with a degree in Auto Body. Mr. DePatie owned ABC Auto Painting in Florida for seven years before moving to Pittsfield in 2000. He currently owned and operated American Auto Detailing on Reed Street. He had also worked at Haddad Motors. Jim had a passion for restoring antique automobiles and building custom street rods. He enjoyed attending car shows and cruises around the Northeast and was a member of the Pittsfield Piston Poppers Car Club. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, the former Diane Ohmen, whom he married in Monroe, Conn., on Aug. 21, 1982. He also leaves two children, a son, Jeffrey DePatie of Pittsfield, with whom he worked and also shared his passion for cars, and a daughter, Jennifer Foley and her husband, Matthew, also of Pittsfield; two brothers, Thomas DePatie and his wife Fran, and David DePatie and his wife, Beth, and their children, all of Gainesville, Fla.; his aunts and uncles, Monica and William Brown, of New York, Jean and Henri Burel, of New Jersey, and Bonnie and Robert Claus of New York. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mr. James DePatie will be Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:45 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, celebrated by Msgr. Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
