James Cook David Donald

1938 - 2015 ARLINGTON VA. James Cook David Donald (Jim), of Arlington, Va., passed away on February 19. He was 76. Jim was born on Sept. 29, 1938 in Lanesborough, Mass. to the late William R. Donald, Sr. and Marie E. Cook Donald. He graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1956. Jim attended The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. where he earned a Bachelors in Architecture in 1961 and a Juris Doctorate in 1967. He practiced both architecture and law in the Washington Metropolitan area for over 30 years in several capacities. He was President/Managing Partner of DLP & Associates, P.C. He was a Senior Vice President with Mills, Clagget, & Wening, as well as with McGaughy, Marshall & McMillian. Jim worked for Max O. Urbahn Associates in the New York, N.Y. and Athens, Greece offices. He worked as Administrator, Government Affairs, for the American Institute of Architects. He was a partner in the law firm of Fay, Donald and Sheehy. In most recent years, he was a trusted advisor and consultant to various entities in both the legal and architectural fields as well as a Construction Arbitrator. Jim loved spending time with his family and traveling with them. He was active in the Arlington Rotary Club for many years. He was very proud of his Scottish and Irish heritage and immensely enjoyed his Great Pyrenees dogs. Jim was dearly loved and will be missed by all. Jim is survived by his three daughters, Sharon (Nat) Bartholomew, Gwenanne (Michael) Salkind, and Charlene Martin; grandchildren, Shannon Martin McCreary, CJ Bartholomew, Jillian Bartholomew, Emily Salkind, and Patrick Salkind; brother, William R. Donald, Jr.; sisters, Doris (Dick) Tyde, and Cheryl Donald; several nieces, nephews and their families. FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends may call to the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 4510 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, VA 22203 on Thursday, March 12, from 6 - 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1910 N. Randolph St., Arlington, VA 22207 at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 13. Interment will be at Columbia Gardens Cemetery, Arlington, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Arlington Rotary Educational Foundation, P.O. Box 100038, Arlington, VA 22210 or to St. Agnes Catholic Church.
