James W. Kelly

1921-2012 PITTSFIELD Mr. James W. Kelly, 91, of 51 Kenwood St., died Wednesday evening, October 31, 2012 at Berkshire Place, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Pittsfield on October 10, 1921 the son of Thomas E. and Katherine A. Buntin Kelly, he was a 1939 graduate of St. Joseph High School and attended Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Kelly worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 41 years, retiring on September 1, 1984.

He was a US Army Veteran of World War II and served in both the European and Pacific Theatres with the 86th Infantry Division.

Mr. Kelly was a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart Church where he was an active volunteer.

He was a life member of the American Legion Charles A. Persip Post 68, a member of the 86th Infantry Division Association, the AARP and a former member of the Knights of Columbus Council 103. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and also a longtime blood donor for the Red Cross.

Mr. Kelly enjoyed spending time with his family and with his many friends. His kind, caring ways touched the lives of many people.

He was predeceased by his wife, the former Helen N. Callahan, whom he married on April 11, 1959 at St. Joseph Church.

Mr. Kelly leaves his three children, William J. Kelly and his wife Doris of Sudbury, Mass., Therese Callahan and her husband Michael of Lanesborough and Jeanne Crehan and her husband Joseph of Scituate, Mass.; eight grandchildren, Marita Jillett, Sean Callahan, Brian Callahan, Brendan Kelly, Allison Kelly, Lindsey Kelly, Meghan Crehan and Jillian Crehan, and one great granddaughter, Caroline Callahan and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Mary M. Kelly and two brothers, Thomas F. Kelly and John J. Kelly.

The family of Mr. James W. Kelly would like to thank the staff of Berkshire Place and Hospice Care in the Berkshires for their kind care of Jim during his recent illness.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mr. James W. Kelly will be Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 8 a.m. from the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St., Pittsfield, MA with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, celebrated by the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday, November 2, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m.
