Jane Tobin Obituary
Jane E. Tobin

1929-2016 PITTSFIELD Jane E. Tobin, of Pittsfield passed away Thursday on her 87th birthday at Albany Medical Center. An unexpected stroke decided to wisk her away. Born in Pittsfield, May 26, 1929, the daughter of the late Milton Nesbit & Theresa Gaffney Nesbit, she was educated in the local schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1948. Continuing her education, she graduated from the former St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing. Jane was a nurse for 40 years at the former St. Luke's Hospital then at Berkshire Medical Center. She and her husband, John E. Tobin also owned and operated Peg's Square Dance Shop in Pittsfield. A member of the Red Hat Society, she enjoyed square dancing, bowling, ceramics, and her time volunteering in the kitchen on Monday nights for Bingo at St. Charles Church. She and her husband, the late John E. Tobin were married September 30, 1950. He died March 29, 1983. She is survived by her four children, Donna J. Prendergast, John "Jack" Tobin, Judy Sherman, and David Tobin, her eight grandchildren, William G. Prendergast, Carey Contini, Mandy Tobin, Darcy Tobin, Robert Tobin, Jeffrey Tobin, Zackery Tobin, and Nick Tobin, and her two great grandchildren, Sophia Contini and Kaleb Contini. Jane had a zest for life, she loved the sun on her face and the ocean between her toes and even the challenges of winter. Jane loved gatherings of family and friends and her outings with her Red Hat Friends. Jane's two favorite things in life were Christmas (and for those of us who knew her, knew that Jane could never have enough Christmas decorations) the other being York Beach Maine where she and John spent many years at their trailer until his death. Jane loved to travel. "Go enjoy life, get out and about, life is to be enjoyed. Life is a museum waiting to be explored." FUNERAL NOTICE There will be no calling hours. Jane's wish was to be cremated and her ashes scattered at Nubble Light in York Beach, Maine. A celebration of Jane's life will be held at a time and date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in her memory may be made to the Eleanor Sonsini Animal Shelter in care of the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
