1914 - 2014 DALTON Janet Evelyn Barton, 99, was born on October 15, 1914 in Flint, Mich. where her parents the late Claire C. and Jennie E. (Warren) Barton were shoe store owners. Janet was a graduate of Wheaton College and she had a rich life filled with many varied interests. She was a world traveler, enjoyed birding, photography, gardening, bowling, golfing, reading and knitting. She was a lifelong member of the Congregational Church in Dalton at which she was the head of the church Sunday School for many years. Janet retired from GE where she was a talented draftswoman. Janet was the loving aunt to Priscilla (Conan) Barton Trombly, Joan (Charles) Barton Sprinkle, and Cindy (Robert) Barton Edwards, and Curtis (Joan) Barton; the loving cousin to Robert (Carol) Pomeroy, Martin (Cindy) Glendon, Mary Ann Glendon and Julie Giendon; as well as to numerous grand nieces, nephews and cousins; and a longtime friend to Wanda Mason. She was predeceased by her two brothers Henry Allen Barton, and William Warren Barton. Janet passed away peacefully 5 days before her 100th birthday. She was a strong and thoughtful woman, devoted to her family and she will be sorely missed by all who knew her. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held Monday, at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Dalton with the Rev. Quentin Chin, pastor officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Main Street Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Donations in her memory may be made to the First Congregational Church of Dalton, 514 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226.
