Janet M Cazavelan

1945 - 2014 LANESBOROUGH Janet M. Cazavelan, 68, of 845 North Main St. On Monday, Jan. 27, The Lord granted Janet Cazavelan a peaceful passing at her home, where she was surrounded by her devoted husband of 47 years, loving family, and beloved pets. She was born in Pittsfield on Nov. 9, 1945, the daughter of John and Clara Vreeland of Lanesborough. She graduated from Mount Greylock High School with honors and attended North Adams State College. She worked as a dental technician at the former Pittsfield dental lab. Then worked for over 12 years in the Pittsfield school system in dietary and as head cook. For several years she worked at the Berkshire Museum and later for the BSO at Tanglewood. She was a longtime dedicated parishioner of St. Stephen's Church and was an active member of the lay ministry. She sang passionately for over 30 years in the church choir, served as a member of St. Stephen's table, traveled to Honduras for the episcopal relief program and also participated in many other aspects of the church. Janet enjoyed traveling throughout Europe, and did several tours singing with the Berkshire Choir in Europe. Her passion for travel also brought her to all 50 states. She was a talented gardener, which included organic farming, and extensive English style garden. In addition to her many other interests, Janet enjoyed the company of her Arabian horses and many other companion animals. Janet will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Thomas C Cazavelan; her son, Todd J Cazavelan, his wife, Jennifer Needham, and their daughter, Clara-Ann Cazavelan. In addition she leaves a daughter, Wendy Cazavelan; a sister, Anne Vreeland and her husband, Gerry Burnell, and many other wonderful family members. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service with Eucharist for Janet M. Cazavelan will be held Saturday, Feb. 1, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church with the Cricket Cooper officiating at 1 p.m. Calling hours will be at St. Stephen's Parish, 67 East St. Pittsfield, MA 01201 from 11 to 1 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life Mass, concluded with a gathering at the parish dining hall. Burial will be at the convience of the family in Lanesborough. Memorial donations may be made to St. Stephen's Table in her name.
