1947-2013 BECKET Mr. Jean-Claude Godbout, 66, of 7 Bowmans Lane, Becket, died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 25.

Born in Saint-Raphaël, Quebec, Canada, on May 17, 1947, he was the son of Jeanette Lebrecque Godbout and the late Claude-Aime Godbout.

Jean moved to Springfield, Massachusetts at the age of 16 and later moved to Becket in 1979. He married his wife, the former Celine Chicoine, on August 10, 1968. Jean was a self-employed contractor and owned his own construction business for over 35 years. He was currently semi-retired.

Jean was very active in community events. He was kind-hearted and went out of his way to help others. He was well liked and known around the surrounding Becket community. Jean loved camping with his wife and family.

In addition to his beloved wife of nearly 45 years, Jean leaves his mother, Jeanette Godbout of Saint-Raphaël, Quebec, a son, Mario J. Godbout of Becket, MA, two daughters, Tina M. Danzy and Lisa M. Godbout, both of Dalton, MA, and seven grandchildren, Christian, Jeremy, Nadia, Selina, Zoe, Marissa and Anthony. He also leaves several other family members and countless friends. He is predeceased by his brother, Laurant Godbout.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours will take place on Wednesday, July 31 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kelly Funeral Home in Lee, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Becket. Burial will follow in Becket Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jean's honor to the Becket Santa Toy Fund in care of Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main Street, Lee, MA 01238.
