DALTON Jean Margaret Woodcome, 90, of Lighthouse Point, Florida, formerly of Dalton, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Emeritus at Deer Creek at Deerfield Beach, Florida.Born in Dalton on December 14, the daughter of Joseph and Hazel Bentley Woodcome, she was educated in Dalton schools and was a 1940 graduate of Dalton High School and Miss Herbert's Business School.

A World War II veteran, Miss Woodcome enlisted with the United States Navy as a WAVE on February 20, 1943 in Boston. She began as an Apprentice Seaman and concluded her military service as Chief Yeoman. She was honorably discharged on July 26, 1946, in San Diego, California.

Miss Woodcome was employed by Lockheed Air Craft Corporation in California as a secretary in upper management. She retired with more than 25 years service.

She returned to Dalton and then wintered in Florida.

She was a communicant of St. Agnes Church.

Miss Woodcome is survived by a sister, Eileen M. Vinyard of Lighthouse Point, Fla., and many cousins, including Mary Woodcome of Dalton, and Anne Callahan of Pittsfield.

She was pre-deceased by a sister, Frances E. Woodcome, who died in 1978.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Jean Margaret Woodcome will be held Wednesday, July 24, at 9:45 a.m., at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Church celebrated by Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, Pastor.

Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Agnes Church in care of the funeral home, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.
