It is with saddened hearts that we share the news of our Mom, Nan and Best Friend, Joanne M. Trova's, passing.

Joanne passed away in the early morning of December 13th at Hillcrest Commons on the day she was scheduled to return to her son Michael's house under the care of Hospice.

She was born in Rochester, New York to Marie Gill Griffin and Charles Griffin. Joanne attended and graduated from local schools and furthered her education at the Elms College.

Joanne was a communicant of the former Mt. Carmel Parish where she taught catechism. She was also a teacher in the Catholic School System where she had the pleasure of having her daughter as a student for a period of time.

She enjoyed life going on trips with her husband and children. She later enjoyed those trips to Florida, Cape Cod and California with her daughter Tina and granddaughter Samantha.

Despite her hectic schedule, family and friends were her passion and delight. She attended all sporting events and competitions that her children and grandchildren were involved in and was their biggest "FAN". She was also a dedicated Red Sox Fan, watching every game with her son Alec until his passing in April.

Mom was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing Italian dishes for her family and friends, especially over the holidays. Mom always made the holidays very special and enjoyed by all.

She married Emilio Trova on December 28, 1958 and enjoyed 47 years with him. Joanne's sons Alec and Michael, daughter Tina and granddaughter Samantha lovingly cared for her in the last years of her life so she could remain in her own home.

Joanne is predeceased by her father Charles Griffin 5/5/1950, mother Marie Griffin Carchedi 4/2/2005, her son William G. Keser 9/19/2001 son Alec C. Trova 4/11/2018, Husband Emilio Trova 2/5/2005 and her grandson Nathan Trova 11/11/2018. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Ruth Burke of New York and Charlene Grizzy of Nevada and her brother John Griffin of Pittsfield.

She leaves behind her son Michael and his son Nicholas, who brought much joy to Gram, of Pittsfield, daughter Tina and her husband James and his daughter Katie of Deerfield, and her granddaughter Samantha, who she helped raise for over 20 years, and who was the sunshine in her heart, and fiance Ryan Bateman of Pittsfield. She also leaves behind her brother Barry Griffin of Katy, Texas, sister in laws, Rose Nigrelli of Pittsfield and Angie Trombley of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida as well as many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her fur baby, Lexi, who was a great companion throughout the years.

The family would like to Thank the doctors and nurses at Berkshire Medical Center and Hillcrest Commons for taking such good care of our mom and making sure she was comfortable.

A special thank you to Dery Funeral Home for their professionalism, support and compassion during this very difficult year.

Private services and burial for family and friends were held at St. Joseph's Cemetery on December 21, 2018 with Rev. Msgr. Michael Shershanovich, officiating.

Thank you Mom, Nan and my best friend for a lifetime of Super Memories!!!!! I'll always carry you in my heart forever and ever!
