1925 - 2014 QUINCY John J. Dougherty, 89, of Quincy, formerly of North Adams, passed away peacefully at the Falmouth Hospital on Dec. 18, after battling pneumonia. He was the beloved husband of the late Geraldine Ahern Dougherty, and the son of the late Bernard and Mary Josephine Dougherty. John was born in Everett, Mass., on Sept. 6, 1925, raised in Jamaica Plain, was a proud graduate of BC High and Boston College, and attended the Wharton School in Philadelphia. He served in the United States Army in the Philippines during World War II. He retired as president of Cascade School Supplies, completing 35 years with the company. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, and will be dearly missed by all who loved him. John is survived by seven loving children, Michael of Naples, Fla., Julie Jackson and husband, James, of Yarmouth, Maine, Daniel of Bennington Vt., Mary Jo Toms and husband, Michael, of Charlottesville, Va., Brian of Rutland, Vt., Patrick of San Francisco, Calif., and Jean Wishingstone of Mashpee, Mass.; his sister, Margaret Haley and husband, Paul, of Weymouth; five grandchildren, Dylan, Cotter, Wyatt, Mairead, Aidan; and his sister-in-law, Eileen Dougherty of West Roxbury; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother William. It was John's wish that there will be no funeral services and his burial will be arranged privately by the family.
