John B. Giarolo "Johnny" Sr.

1929-2012 LEE John B. Giarolo Sr. 83, of Marble St. in Lee, died Saturday, October 20th, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law Jeanne Giarolo Roode and her husband Charles of Weathersfield. Ct.

He was born in Croton- on- Hudson, N.Y. on June 26, 1929 the son of Fortunato "Mario" and Mary Biasin Giarolo. He was educated in the Lee Schools and was a 1947 graduate of Lee High School where he played football, basketball and baseball. He played with the Lee Sons of Italy baseball team in 1949 that advanced to the National Finals in Kansas. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951 until 1953. After the service he worked as a carpenter for Gordon Houldsworth in Pittsfield and later for Victor Pellizzaro of Lee.

He was last employed by Peter Francese in Pittsfield retiring in 1991.

He was a member of Local #108 carpenter union ,G. Marconi Lodge #1620 Lee Sons of Italy and Lee Sportsmen Club.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and fishing and hunting.

He leaves his wife the former Antoinette "Toni" Stracuzzi whom he married April 24, 1954. Besides his daughter and son-in-law of Wethersfield, he leaves his son John B. Giarolo, Jr. and his wife Susan of Old Orchard Beach, Me., one sister Linda M. Winters and her husband Jack of Lee, his sister-in-law Vera Giarolo, five Grandchildren, Jenna Hitchko and her husband Tim Braun, Megan and Anthony Giarolo, Nicole and Nina Roode and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Ottavio Giarolo and his sister Mary Salice and her husband Victor.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral for John Giarolo will be held Tuesday morning October 23rd at 10:15 from the Kelly Funeral Home, with a liturgy of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church with the Reverend John K. Sheaffer, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's cemetery.

Visiting hours at the Kelly Funeral Home will be Monday October 22nd from 4 to 7. Friends wishing may make donations to St. Mary's school or to Porchlight in care of the Kelly Funeral Home, 3 Main Street, Lee, Ma. 01238
