John F. Kopec 1916-2012 ADAMS Mr. John F. Kopec, 95, formerly of 9 Baskin Lane, Adams, died Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Halcyon Hospice in Atlanta, Ga. He was born in Adams on November 1, 1916, a son of the late Tytus and Anastasia (Wlodyka) Kopec, and attended Adams schools. He graduated in 1935 from the former Adams High School, where he was Captain of the State Champion Basketball team. He was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the US Navy in the Pacific Theater, until his Honorable Discharge in 1945. Mr. Kopec last worked as a letter carrier for the US Postal service in Adams for 25 years, until retiring in 1981. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams, and was a member of the St. Stanislaus Kostka Society. An avid golfer, he was a member of Forest Park Country Club in Adams. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, the former Helen S. Meczywor, whom he married on April 7, 1945; A son, Michael Kopec and his wife, Debra, of Roswell, Ga.; A daughter, Patricia Massimine and her husband, Kenneth, of Woodstock, Ga.; three Grandchildren, Kristen Massimine and Melissa and Michelle Kopec; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. The last of his immediate family, he was predeceased by his brother, Frank Kopec, and by four sisters, Helen Kalisz, Blanche Rusek, Sophie Kopec and Victoria Zoltek. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 12th, at 10:45 a.m. from the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. until the service.
