John H. Lewarn, Jr. 1922 - 2012 PITTSFIELD John H. Lewarn Jr., age 90, passed away on March 18, 2012, in Pittsfield. John was born on Feb. 6, 1922, in Pittsfield, son of John and Emma Wood Lewarn, and he attended Pittsfield schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1940. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army Air Force, where he was an aerial photographer in India, China, and Burma. After the war, John attended Syracuse University and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1950, and then in 1952 a Masters of Arts Degree from Columbia University. He taught Art Education in Lenox for 36 years and retired from teaching in 1988. Mr. Lewarn was a member of the Crescent-Pittsfield Lodge AF & AM Masons where he was Past Master; he was also Past High Priest and Past Illustrious Master of Berkshire Royal Arch Chapter, Past Commander of Berkshire Commandry, and a member of the Knights Templar and York Rite Bodies #22. He was a longtime member of Board of Directors Pittsfield Masonic Association and was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Pittsfield. He is survived by two nieces, Beverly Moore and her husband Charles of Fullerton, CA, and Elaine Haendiges and her husband Jerry of Whitter, CA.; cousins, Emily McDonough of Pittsfield and Sr. Lillian Belcher of Putnam, CT.; 12 great nephews and nieces, Jim Winestock, Jane Mole, Jeff Winestock, Jill Rufo, Jody Mullins, all of New Lebanon, Judy Mirault of Keene, NH, Valerie DeWeerth of Abu Dhabi, UAE, Keith Moore of San Diego, CA, Paul Moore of Corona, CA, Gary Haendiges of Newport Beach, CA, Sheryl Mauk of Whitter, CA, and Susan Perini of Katy, TX. He was predeceased by his sisters, Ruth M. Harris, Hazel A. Winestock, Mary Brosseau, and a brother, Kenneth Lewarn. The family wishes to thank all who helped care for John during the last few years; neighbors, friends, family, Lynne & Arlene and staff who provided home health care, and HospiceCare in the Berkshires. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for John H. Lewarn Jr., will be held Wednesday, at 11:30 AM at the Wellington Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Rennie and the Rev. Quentin Chin officiating. Burial will follow in the Village Cemetery in West Stockbridge, MA with Military Honors. There will be a time of visitation on the day of the service from 10 am until 11:30 am at the WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the , 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, 877 South St. Suite 4 east, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
