John "Jack" Nowicki

1947 - 2013 ADAMS John Joseph "Jack" Nowicki, 65, of 9 Bobs Hill, died peacefully at his home on Monday, April 8, 2013.

He was born in Adams on April 20, 1947, a son of Stephen and Mary (Skubel) Nowicki. He attended schools in Adams and North Adams and graduated from the former St. Joseph High School in North Adams.

Mr. Nowicki worked as a Deputy Sherriff and Corrections officer for the Berkshire County House of Correction from May 22, 1977 until his retirement on Aug. 9, 1997. He had also worked for many years at Rowley Fuel Co.

He was a member of the Adams Lodge of Elks, the Maple Grove Civic Club, Forest Park Country Club and the Mountain Club, all in Adams. He was an avid golfer and horse racing enthusiast. He was also an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Bruins, the Boston Celtics and the New England Patriots.

Besides his parents of Adams, he is survived by his wife, the former Joyce G. Ciuk, whom he married Aug. 6, 1983; three daughters, Jacqueline Nowicki of Adams, Sara A. Nowicki of Savoy and Jennifer C. Davis and her husband, Fletcher of Verona, N.Y.; three brothers, Thomas Nowicki and his wife, Claire, of Longmeadow, Gregory Nowicki and his wife, Deborah, of Adams and Paul Nowicki and his wife Mary, of Ware; a brother-in-law, Bruce Sherman of Florida, Mass.; three grand-dogs, Java, Fergy and Lola, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister, Christine Sherman, and by his beloved dog, Captain.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be Friday, April 12, at 8:45 a.m. from the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Cheshire, celebrated by the Rev. David R. Raymond, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
