John O'Connor

1930 - 2015 PITTSFIELD John T. O'Connor, 84, of New York Avenue, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2015 at Hillcrest Commons. Born on June 3, 1930 in Pittsfield, he was the son of James and Margaret Fitzpatrick O'Connor and was a graduate of St. Joseph's High School. John proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1952 to 1954 and worked for many years as a Packer at Eaton Paper Co. He and his wife, the former Elizabeth Lavelle were married in 1952 and shared their lives together until her death on April 7, 2004. John was an avid sports fan, with his favorite teams being the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Giants. He will be fondly remembered for his great sense of humor. John is survived by his daughter, Deborah Mercauto and her husband, Tony, of Adams. He also leaves two nephews; David Wilson and his wife, Brenda, of Williamstown, Bruce Wilson and his wife, Lisa, of N.H., and his faithful dog, Bonet. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for John O'Connor will be held Friday, Feb. 6, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 191 Elm Street, Pittsfield, MA, with the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Friends wishing may make memorial donations in John's honor to Hospice Care in the Berkshires in care of the Devanny-Condron Funeral Home, 40 Maplewood Avenue, Pittsfield, MA 01201, who has been entrusted with arrangements.
