1917 - 2015 PITTSFIELD Mr. Joseph R. Failla, 98, of 46 Longfellow Ave., died Friday morning at Mt. Greylock Extended Care facility following a long illness. Born in Pittsfield, June 30, 1917, to the late Luigi and Alfia Monitto Failla. A U.S. Army veteran of WW II, he served in both Italy and France. Joe was injured on May 12, 1944 during the Arno River campaign in Italy. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantry Badge. He settled in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. and married the former Patricia Brown in 1972. She died in 1991. Joe worked in Real Estate, Insurance and also worked on private yachts. He loved gardening, golf and his family. He is survived by his brothers, Samuel Failla of Lenox, Ma and Frank Failla of New York City,N.Y. His nephews, Louis and Robert Failla, both of Pittsfield, his niece, Marie A. Beron (Diana Goddard), his grand nephews, Harry Beron III (Becki Beron) and Robert Beron (Kasey Beron), his grand-niece, Courtney Failla, all of Pittsifeld, as well as several cousins and numerous friends in Florida. He was predeceased by his brother, Vincent Failla, who died in 2010. The family extends their thanks to the staff at Mt. Greylock ECF, many of whom befriended "Uncle Joe". FUNERAL NOTICE: Failla, Joseph R., 98, of Pittsfield, died Dec. 18th. There will be no funeral services at this time. The family will re-publish the obituary in the spring of 2016 when Joe will be laid to rest with a full military burial. The Devanny-Condron Funeral Home has been entrusted with his arrangements.
