Joseph S. Kiss

1933 - 2016 LENOX Joseph S. Kiss, 83, of King William Road died Sunday, September 11th at Berkshire Medical Center surrounded by his family. Mr. Kiss was born in Schenectady, NY on June 24, 1933 to the late Joseph and Stella Wier Kiss. He attended Draper High School and graduated in 1951. After high school Joe attended Siena College where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Physics in 1955. Joe was a United States Army Veteran and served during the Korean War. He worked as a Systems Engineer at General Electric in various locations which included Syracuse, NY; Weisbaden, Germany; Huntsville, AL; and Pittsfield, MA until his retirement in 1991. He devoted the majority of his career to the TRIDENT Fleet Ballistic Missile Program. Joe and his wife, the former Phyllis M. Kelly, were married on April 7, 1956. Joe enjoyed following his beloved NY Yankees and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He was also a passionate fan of local youth and high school sports, spending countless hours as a volunteer coach. He was a fixture at most soccer and basketball events regardless of the weather. He was known for providing his year-end recaps of the high school sports seasons. His hobbies included golf as well as being an avid hunter and fisherman. Some of his happiest times were the summers spent with the family on Lake St. Catherine in Vermont. Joe was a member of St. Ann's Church. Besides his wife of Lenox, Joe leaves his three daughters: Karen M. Zinchuk and her husband Michael of Lenox, Donna J. Lewis and her husband Dennis of Clifton Park, Nancy A. Kiss and Henry Wolfer of Monterey; five grandchildren; Kyle A., Cameron M., and Hayden A. Zinchuk, and Ali N., and Drew M. Lewis. Besides his parents, Joseph is pre deceased by his sister Carol A. Kiss. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral for Mr. Joseph Stephen Kiss who died September 11, 2016 will be held on Friday, September 16th at 9:00am from the Roche Funeral Home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Ann's Church at 10:00am officiated by the Rev. Monsignor John Bonzagni. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4:00pm-8:00pm at the Roche Funeral Home, 120 Main Street, Lenox, MA 01240. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to either the Lenox Ambulance Squad or the Lenox Fire Department, both in care of the funeral home.
