Joseph A. Patella

1927 - 2013 PITTSFIELD Joseph A. Patella, 85, of 88 Plunkett St., died Friday March 29, 2013, at Craneville Place of Dalton.

Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 1, 1927, the son of Michael and Ida Mele Patella, he was a 1946 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

Mr. Patella was an Army veteran of World War II. He was stationed in Japan with the occupation force after the end of the war.

He worked in the Transformer division at General Electric in Pittsfield for 33 years until his retirement in 1987.

Mr. Patella was a lifelong resident of Pittsfield and a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and former communicant of the former St. Mary of the Morning Star Church.

He was a member of the Italian American Club where he enjoyed playing cards with his many friends.

Mr. Patella was predeceased by his first wife, the former Mary Barbara Gould, who died on January 8, 1969.

He leaves his wife, the former Elia V. Masengo, whom he married Dec. 30, 1983; a daughter, Holly Ann Isley of Angels Camp, Calif.; a son, John M. Patella and his wife, Shannon of Salisbury, N.C.; two sisters, Maria Meandro and Laura Taylor, both of Pittsfield; six grandchildren, Erica N. Patella, John M. Patella II, Gianna G. Patella, Jessica L. Isley, Michelle R. King and Daniel C.J. Isley; four great-grandchildren, Brandon King, Ryder King, Jackson Lawrence and Fiona Lawrence, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his stepmother, Lucia Patella and by three brothers, Vincent Patella, Michael Patella and Augustino Patella.

The family of Mr. Patella would like to sincerely thank the Dialysis Unit at Berkshire Medical Center and the staff at Craneville Place of Dalton for the respectful and compassionate care they gave Joe.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral Services for Joseph A. Patella will be Thursday, April 4, 2013, at 10 a.m. from the DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North St., Pittsfield, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, celebrated by the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday, April 3, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m.
