Joseph Peters Obituary
Joseph Peters

1928 - 2014 ADAMS Joseph Edward Peters of 67 Summer St., died peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014 at Mt. Greylock Extended Care in Pittsfield. Born in Utica, N.Y., May 29, 1928, he was the son of John and Ida (Coury) Peters When Joe was 2 yrs. old, the family relocated to Adams to work in the Berkshire Mills. He attended Adams Schools and graduated in 1947. Joe was President of his Senior class, voted in his yearbook as the next Bob Hope and a longtime member of the class reunion committee. Joe was known for his humor and was Master of Ceremony of various functions. He was one of the original members of the Thunderbolt Ski Club. Lifelong member of the Adams Elks BPOE, he served as Exalted Ruler (twice) and also attended regional and national conventions. He hosted and helped raise money for functions and other charities through the Elks. One of the functions he hosted and helped raise money for was the Christmas for children of Elk members. He also ran Bingo for many years along with much more. For those who got to know Joe, he had a nickname for almost everyone, if you didn't already have one. Joe himself was known by many names, Nick, Haas, Ucky (Uncle), Jiddu (grandfather), The Jid and Dad. His grandchildren often spent time with him since they were little until they got out of college. Though they don't live in the area, when they came home to visit they would spend time with him. Joe leaves a daughter Kimberly Ann of Adams, a son, David Joseph of Casablanca, Morocco daughter-in-law, Samira Belamine-Peters, grandchildren; Rachelle Klammer of Westfield, MA, Shaun Klammer of Manchester, NH, Leena Peters of Philadelphia, Anissa Peters of Boston and Rayan Joseph Peters of Casablanca, as well as nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his wife, the former Irene Babcock who passed Nov. 5, 1983, and his two sisters, Zowd Joseph and Marian Kennedy. We hope all who had the pleasure to meet him can remember a funny story or one Joe had shared with them.
