Josephine Federico Scalise 1915-2012 PITTSFIELD Josephine "Jessie" Federico Scalise, 96, formerly of 379 East St. Providence Court Apartments died Friday, January 13, 2012 at Springside of Pittsfield where she has resided since March of 2010. Born on June 6, 1915 in Dawson, N.M., a daughter of the late Alfonso and Santa DiCicco Federico. She attended schools in New Mexico and was a graduate of nursing school in Pittsfield. Jessie was a Licensed Practical Nurse working at Hillcrest Hospital, The Veterans Administration Hospital in Albany, New York and also did private duty nursing. She had been a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and now a communicant of Saint Charles Church. She was a member of the Lazy Acres Riding Club. She was a avid gardener and operated her own green house and would always grow an abundance of vegetables for canning. She also enjoyed cooking and traveling to Italy and Israel, and at onetime returned to visit her birthplace, Dawson, New Mexico. She is survived by three sons, Joseph J. Scalise and his wife Sandra, James Philip Scalise and his wife Lois and Alfonso Scalise and his wife Judy all of Pittsfield, Two daughters, Joan C. Wooley and her husband Raymond of Pittsfield, and Shirlee Ann Twine of Concord, N.H. Three sisters, Santa "Jennie" Pasquarelli of the State of Florida, Edna Alfano and her husband Phil of Pittsfield and Nancy Scoco and her husband Lawrence of Pittsfield, 19 Grandchildren, 38 Great Grandchildren and nine Great Great Grandchildren. She was predeceased by her former husband, James M. Scalise, who died in October of 1990, and by her three sisters, Mary Mundipare, Adelina "Lil" Foley and Ellen Maslak. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Josephine "Jessie" Scalise will be held Wednesday, January 18th,2012 with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Charles Church, with the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at Saint Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, Ma. will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials in her memory may be made to Springside of Pittsfield Activity Program in care of Dery Funeral Home.
