Judith E. Bechtold

1926 - 2015 LENOX Judith E. Bechtold, 88, died Thursday morning at Mt. Carmel Care Center in Lenox. Born in Marquette, Mich. on March 18, 1926, she was the daughter of Herman and Lydia (Poro) Heikkila. A 1944 graduate of Rock High School, she later attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Mich., where she earned her BA degree, graduating at the age of 31. Mrs. Bechtold was an elementary school teacher for 25 years, retiring from the St. Clair Shores, Michigan, Public Schools in 1982. In 1944, she married Richard Campbell. They both retired from teaching in 1982 and planned on spending time their time golfing in Fairfield Glade, Tenn. They were married for 42 years until his death in 1987. She later married Raymond Bechtold, also from Fairfield Glade, Tenn. He predeceased her in 2013. She was a communicant of St. Francis of Assissi in Fairfield Glade, Tenn., before moving to Massachusetts to be closer to family. She loved golf, square dancing, her card club, traveling, any kind of needlecraft and spending the winter months in Florida as a "Snowbird!" She was very proud of her Finnish heritage and let everyone know she was a "Yooper!" Mrs. Bechtold is survived by her daughter, Bonita Bertocci and her husband, Louis, of Lee; and her son, Douglas Campbell and his wife, Cheryl, of White Lake, Mich.; her grandchildren, Jennifer Valente and her husband, Evan, of Lenox, Christopher Carnevale of Lenox, Bryan Campbell and his wife, Monica, from Clarkston, Mich.; Stephen Campbell and his wife, Heather, of Marietta, Ga., and Andrew Campbell and his wife, Stephanie, from Allegan, Mich. She is also survived by her eight great-grandchildren, Miles Briggs, Samuel Valente, Carolyn Mills, Easton Campbell, Isla and Ruby Campbell and Claira and Emma Campbell. The family would like to thank the staff at Mt. Carmel Care Center for the excellent care she received over the past two years that she was a resident there. An extra thank you goes to the special staff in the St. Luke's Unit! The funeral and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Hospice Care in the Berkshires in care of the ROCHE FUNERAL HOME, 120 Main Street, Lenox, MA 01240.
