1920 - 2016 CHATHAM, MA -- Dr. June Frances (James) MacDonald, 95, of 45 Cedar Swamp Lane, died at Cape Cod Hospital on Monday May 30, in Hyannis. Born a native of Chatham on June 26, 1920, the daughter of the late Francis Leavitt James and Arabelle Cook. She was educated in local schools and was a 1938 graduate of Chatham High School, and attended Bridgewater State College graduating in 1942. She taught school for many years on the Cape. In 1962 received her Masters of Science in Education at the University of North Dakota. Upon her return to Cape Cod in 1964, she returned to teaching and tutoring, which she enjoyed. In 1974, she earned her doctorate in Education. On March 1, 1953, she married the late Donald E. MacDonald of Boston, who served in the U.S. Air Force. She traveled cross country with her husband and son. She was an avid reader and historian; she gave lectures on the history of Chatham and growing up as the daughter of a fisherman. She is survived by her son, Robin and his wife, Christa of East Chatham, NY, two granddaughters and several nieces and nephews, a sister Shirley Freethy of North Chatham, MA She was predeceased by her husband Donald of 50 years, two bothers Howard and Frank and a sister Vivian James. At a later date, there will be a special service at the First Church of Christ, 27 East St., Pittsfield, MA.
