1923 - 2014 WILLIAMSTOWN Katherine Warner Akers, 91, formerly of Madison, N.J. died Nov. 26, at home in Williamstown. She was born in Titusville, Pa., in 1923. Kay volunteered for the AAUW, League of Women Voters, Planned Parenthood, Fair Housing Council, and Chautauqua (NY) Office for the Aging as a nursing home ombudsman. She worked full-time in fund development for Cheshire Home, the first such facility built in the US providing residence for young adults with lifelong physical disabilities. She also did program development work for Jersey Battered Women's Services, Morristown, NJ and Amicae, Jamestown, NY. Kay leaves her husband, John of 64 years, a daughter, Susan (Richard), Denville, NJ, and sons, John Jr. (Fran), Centennial, CO.; James (Mary Pat), Gt. Barrington; and Richard (Stephanie) in Florham Park, NJ, six grandchildren, Austin, Emily, Charlie, Natalie, Ian and Tom Akers, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, three sisters and a grandson, Spencer Akers.
