Kathleen J. Kulas 1952-2011 NORTH ADAMS Kathleen Julia Kulas, 59, of 150 Ashland Street, North Adams, a longtime resident of Cheshire, succumbed to her destiny on Monday, December 26, 2011, while a patient at Berkshire Medical Center surrounded by her family. Born in Adams on September 3, 1952, a daughter of Pauline Agnes Lominski Kulas and the late Edward John Kulas Sr., she attended Cheshire schools and graduated at the top of her class in 1968 graduate from Adams High School and earned a bachelors in fine arts degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where she was a member of the Art Club. Kathy's great passion and gifts were in visual art and sculpture which she shared freely with others. She loved art, music, and theatre, starring in productions in high school and local theatre. Kathy's sense of humor and her special laugh were legendary among those who knew and cherished her. She made friends easily wherever she went. She had a heart of gold always wanting to give more than she had, especially to her nieces and nephews. She loved her animals, most recently, Midnight and Winters, two extraordinary black cats who adored her. She was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Cheshire. In her youth, Kathy was a member of the 4-H Club and the Junior American Legion Auxiliary which awarded her a scholarship for college. Kathy leaves her mother, Pauline Lominski Kulas of Cheshire, four sisters, Elizabeth Kulas of Pittsfield, Bonnie J. Ziter and her husband, Ed, of Bennett, Colorado, Karolin Richardson of Cheshire, and Kimberly Kulas-Perez and her husband, Ralph, of Bronx, New York; two brothers, Eddie Kulas, Jr., and his wife, Annie, of Yorktown, Virginia, and Kristopher Kulas of Pittsfield; as well as her nieces, Danielle and Emily Kulas and Taylor Witmarsh, and nephews, Jonathan Rysz and Joshua Ziter and his wife, Maria, and Ben and Elliott Richardson. She was pre-deceased by her longtime companion, Tom Garner, her father, Edward J. Kulas, Sr., her grandmother, Tulia Lominski, and another sister, Barbara Rysz. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Kathleen J. Kulas will be held Saturday, December 31, at 9:15 a.m., from DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Cheshire celebrated by Rev. David R. Raymond, Pastor. Burial will be in the spring in Cheshire Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday, from 5 to 7 p.m, at the Dery-Cheshire Funeral Home.
