1931 - 2015 CHESHIRE Kenneth Arthur Gurney, 84 of 252 Wells Rd, died August 30, 2015 at Craneville Place of Dalton. Born June 24, 1931 in Adams to the late Gordon W. and Rena Lefebvre Gurney. He was educated in schools both in Adams and Cheshire, and also attended Pittsfield Vocational High School. In 1958 while employed by Sprague Electric Company, he established Cheshire Wood Products along with his father as a part time business which he eventually operated full time until his retirement in 2007. Ken was an active member of the Adams Agricultural Fair Committee, also serving on its Board of Directors for which he was named an Honorary Trustee. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Cheshire where he was a greeter for many years and made numerous batches of homemade penuche for the candy table at the Christmas Bazaar. In his leisure time he enjoyed gardening, wood-working, and furniture restoration. His wife of 40 years, the former Elizabeth F. Reilly, whom he married on April 30, 1955, predeceased him on October 13, 1995. He was also predeceased by his son, Kevin K. Gurney who died on October 13, 1979, and his brother, Russell G. Gurney who died on January 20, 2010. He leaves behind two daughters, both of Cheshire, Ann E. Mange and her husband, Timothy, and Judy Serafin and her husband, Stanley. He also leaves six grandchildren, Daniel Mange of Cheshire, Ryan Mange of Middleboro, MA, Heather Mange Zaniboni and her husband, E. Robert of Cheshire, Caitlin and Danielle Serafin both of Pittsfield and Lindsay Serafin of Sommerville, MA, and one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Reilly (Lily) Zaniboni of Cheshire. Ken also leaves his sister, Jean Magnant and her husband, Albert of Walterboro, SC and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. Ken was fond of all animals, especially his beloved cat, Trouble. Ken's family would like to express their gratitude to the kind and caring staff at Craneville Place of Dalton where he resided since September 2013. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral Services for Kenneth Arthur Gurney will be held Saturday, September 5, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:30a.m., at St. Mary of the Assumption Church celebrated by the Rev. David R. Raymond, Pastor. Burial will follow in Cheshire Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday, from 4 to 7p.m., at the DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary of the Assumption Church or one's in care of the Funeral Home, P.O Box 445, Cheshire.
