Kenneth Raymond "Red" LaPlante

1918-2012 WILLIAMSTOWN Kenneth Raymond "Red" LaPlante 93, of Williamstown, died Friday September 7, 2012 at the North Adams Regional Hospital.

He was born in Skowhegan, Maine on October 19, 1818 a son of the late Albert and Sadie Mae (Bennett) LaPlante. He moved to Clarksburg at an early age and graduated from Drury High School in 1936.

Mr. LaPlante was a veteran of World War II and served in the US Army Air Corps as a tail-gunner on B-24 Liberators from 1944 to 1946. He remained in the Reserves until 1949.

Red worked at the General Electric Co. Ordnance Dept. in Pittsfield until his retirement in 1979.

He was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Mercy Church and was a member of the Friendship Club, GE Foreman's and Quarter Century Club.

Red enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing.

Survivors include his wife, the former Elsie Irene Olson, whom he married on April 20, 1940. One daughter- Hazel Mae Nicol, and her husband, James of Avon, Conn., Two grandchildren-Kim Goff of Kenilworth, IL and Scott Nicol of Hunterville, N.C., Seven Great Grandchildren, Nieces and nephews. One sister and two brothers are deceased including Eleanor, William, and Albert LaPlante.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A private funeral for Red LaPlante will be held at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA. Burial will be in Southview cemetery. There are no calling hours.
