1943 - 2014 BECKET Kenneth L Roode, 70, Vietnam Veteran, formerly of Becket, moved to Ellenton, Fla. four years ago. He departed this life after a 15 year battle with cancer on Monday, Oct. 6, 2014. Born Nov. 20, 1943 to the late Lloyd and Eva Roode of Boston, he is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Linda M Roode; his son, Charles Roode and wife, Jeanne, of Wethersfield, Conn.; and his daughter, Tammy Smith and husband, Steve, of Holly Springs, N.C.; and his beloved grandchildren, Nicole and Nina Roode, Connor and Keagan Smith; also step-granddaughter, Jenna Braun and husband, Tim, and a step-great-grandson, Vincent; his brothers and wives, Ronald and Jan Roode, Robert Roode, and Wayne and Correne Roode; his sisters and husbands, Carol Mayer, Marian and Bruce Pottle, and Susan and James Braim. He also leaves behind two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Rinaldi and Jean White; many nieces and nephews, along with countless loving friends. Ken joined the USMC in 1962 attended boot camp at Parris Island, was stationed at Camp Geiger, N.C., then stationed for two years at Kaneohe Marine Base, Hawaii. His final station was Parris Island as a Drill Instructor, receiving an honorable discharge as a Sergeant in 1966. Ken was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Berkshire Chapter of Trout Unlimited for many years. Where he advocated for the removal of many dams in the Berkshires, to support the proliferation of salmon. Ken retired from the Lee School System after 37 years. FUNERAL NOTICE: Memorial Service is Oct. 27 at 12:30 at the National Veterans Cemetery 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL 34241.
