Korin "Korie" E. Washburn Wood 1963-2012 PITTSFIELD Korin "Korie" E. Washburn Wood, 49, of Curtis Terrace, died early Thursday morning surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in North Adams on April 4, 1963, the daughter of James R. and Sandra Pinkney Washburn, she attended local schools including Lenox Memorial High School. Her caring nature and desire to help the elderly led her to pursue training as a certified nursing assistant. Korie worked primarily as a home health aide for patients in private homes. She enjoyed bingo, animals, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Jenifer A. Wood and her fiance Chaz Prentice of Knoxville, Tenn.; two sons, Dustin A. Wood of Pittsfield and Jared A. Wood and his partner Emily Decker of Pittsfield; a sister, Suzanne Giles of Savannah, Ga.; a brother, James. P Washburn of the Philippines; two grandchildren, Cole Prentice and Brandyn Prentice; an aunt, Pamela Pinkney; close friend, Nancy Hadadd Blackwell and her husband Jason of Great Barrington; her nieces and nephews; and her special longtime friends, the Baczek Family and Wendy Jenkins. Korie also leaves behind her beloved cat, Louie. Korie was predeceased by her mother, Sandra Pinkney, her father, James R. Washburn and his companion Mary Hadadd Molenaar, as well as her special family friends Frank Baczek and Theresa Marino. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral for Ms. Korie E. Washburn Wood, who died June 21, 2012, will be held Monday, June 25, 2012 at 12 p.m. at the ROCHE FUNERAL HOME with the Rev. Richard Hayes, Chaplain for Hospice Care in the Berkshires, officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, June 24th from 3 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Korie's memory may be made to the Wood Family Educational Fund in care of the funeral home, 120 Main Street, Lenox, MA 01240.
