Laura J. Campagna Slater 1921-2012 PITTSFIELD Laura Josephine Campagna Slater, 90, of 36 Melrose Avenue, Lakewood section of Pittsfield passed away peacefully at her home on Monday evening, April 30, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 26, 1921 in Pittsfield to Sicilian immigrants Vincenzo and Josephine Mauro Campagna. Laura grew up on East St. and attended local schools and was a 1940 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She was employed by the General Electric Company for many years, retiring in 1983. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and most of all, her family and her home. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Carl E. Slater whom she married November 20, 1941 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Besides her husband, she leaves her three children, a daughter Judith A. Allessio and her husband Francis, her sons, David H. Slater and his wife Joyce and Jeffrey C. Slater and his wife Mary, all of Pittsfield. Three brothers, James J. Campagna and his wife Jane, Robert Campagna and his wife Antoinette, all of Pittsfield, Alfred Campagna and his wife Eileen of Lawrenceville, Ga. Three sisters, Santina Valenti and her husband Dario and Mary Campagna Slater both of Pittsfield, Helen Alberti and her husband Charles of Salt Lake City, Utah as well as her sister in-law, Esther "Jan" Campagna of Pittsfield. Laura is also survived by seven adored grandchildren, Suzanne LaRocque and her husband Steve, Stephanie LaDue and her husband Sam, David P. Slater and his wife Kristin, Timothy P. Slater, Brittany G. Slater and her fiancee Jeffrey Lyon, Morgan M. Slater and J. Collin Slater, three precious great grandchildren, Ryan and Connor LaRocque and Brennan Patrick Lyon. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Concetta M. Kellar , and Agnes Bilia, and by one brother, Ernest S. Campagna. Laura will be truly missed by all who loved her. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held Monday, May 7th, 2012 at 9:15 a.m. from the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Charles Church, celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor Burial will follow in the family plot at Saint Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at Dery Funeral Home will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorials in her memory may be made to, Hospice Care in the Berkshires or the Elder Services Meals on Wheels program both in care of the funeral home.
