Leonard S. "Lenny" Costa

1952 - 2012 Obituary Condolences
PITTSFIELD - Leonard "Lenny" S. Costa, 59, of 362 West Housatonic St. #11C, Pittsfield, died at Berkshire Medical Center on Thursday, April 19, 2012 while fighting his second battle with cancer.
He was the eldest son of Catherine Theresa and Leonard Costa Sr. who raised Lenny with his three younger brothers in College Point, N.Y. Lenny attended Catholic schools and worked at his family's autobody business and gas station.
He enrolled in the United States Army for a few years. He returned to New York and then went on to live in areas of Texas and California. He owned an autobody business while in California where he painted cars for celebrities including Marvin Gaye. Lenny settled in the Berkshires in 1993 where he continued his profession in autobody work. Most recently, he worked for Soldier On as a general manager and at Berkshire Regional Transit Authority as a compliance officer.
Lenny was adventurous, resilient, and lived life to the fullest. He was energetic and active, and tended to be a step ahead of the rest of us. He had many life experiences that brought him wisdom, which he openly shared with others. Although Lenny did not always let others to know, he was sensitive and deeply cared about people. He was generous and could be a stabilizing support for others, despite his own battles. Lenny's quick wit allowed him to deliver 'one liners' that could take people by surprise and/or brightened their day. Lenny touched the hearts and brought joy to the lives of the people who got the pleasure of truly knowing him.
He enjoyed watching NASCAR and horse races, and mafia movies, listening to music such as Frank Sinatra, reading the NY Post, being outside in the sun or at the beach, and playing games of chance. He loved dogs and learned to love a select few cats.
Lenny is survived by his long time friend, Sherilyn Rheaume, stepdaughter, Leeann Rheaume, his dog, Frankie, daughter, Paula, and granddaughter, Lyric, younger twin brothers, Louie and Jerry, and several nieces and nephews.
Lenny was predeceased by his parents and younger brother, Larry.
