Lester R. Simmons

1950 - 2013 LENOX Lester R. Simmons, 62, of Housatonic Street, died Thursday at his home in the company of his loving family.

Born in Pittsfield on April 9, 1950, the son of Edward and Elizabeth M. Barton Simmons, he attended schools in both Lenox and Lee.

Mr. Simmons enlisted in the Army in 1968 and served with the 8th Calvary, 8th Infantry Division in Vietnam, receiving his honorable discharge on Aug. 2, 1971.

He was employed at Onyx Specialty Papers in South Lee for several years, and had previously worked for MeadWestvaco and Westfield River Paper Co.

Lester had been a member of VFW Post 12079 in Lenox. He loved riding his Harley motorcycle and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed playing golf and re-building his computer.

He and his wife of almost 40 years, the former Sharon L. Shove, were married at the Church-on-the-Hill in Lenox on April 14, 1973.

Besides his wife of Lenox, Lester is survived by three sons, Jeffrey A. Simmons and his wife, Dawn, of Lee, Jonathan E. Simmons and his wife, Rebecca, of Lee, and Justin M. Simmons of Lenox; two sisters, Joan Drumm of East Lee and Ann Simmons of Pittsfield; four grandchildren, Hannah R. Simmons, Payton L. Simmons, Camden C. Simmons, and Jordyn E. Simmons, and many nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral of Lester R. Simmons of Lenox will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the Church on the Hill in Lenox with the Rev. Natalie Shiras, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.

Calling hours at the ROCHE FUNERAL HOME will be Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Berkshire County Kids Place or to the , both in care of the funeral home, 120 Main Street, Lenox, MA 01240.
