Lillian Mancini Bostert

1918-2014 Lillian Mancini Bostert died on January 21, 2014 at the age of 95 after a long battle with Chronic Leukemia. She was born in Newton MA on May 23, 1918. Lillian was the wife of Russell H. Bostert, Stanfield professor of History at Williams, the devoted mother of Carol Bostert Holyoke, and grandmother to Lillian Claire Holyoke and Margaret Dorothy Holyoke. Lillian was a talented athlete from a young age. She graduated from Sargent College at Boston University where she was a member of the prestigious "Twin S" society. She taught athletics at Smith College and later at Williams College where she brilliantly coached Fencing and Tennis. Lillian was an avid traveler, and trekked the globe many times over. She and Russell had a love for the Far East, living for a time in Hong Kong and Taiwan and leading a Williams Winter Study group to China. Lillian belonged to the League of Women Voters and was an involved member of the Williams and Williamstown communities. She was a lover of people and conversation, and is remembered for her lively and generous character that was a delight to so many. Donations in Lillian's name can be made to The Bostert Fund at Williams College, 75 Park Street, Williamstown, MA 01267. This scholarship for Williams undergraduates funds six or more weeks of independent research abroad. Checks should be made out to Williams College, with The Bostert Fund in the memo line. .
